Nashville has long been known for its music, but in the past 20 years, sports have become a big piece of our city’s personality. Whether you’re talking professional hockey and football, or the neighborhood running groups that have popped up throughout town, there is a growing enthusiasm for being active and cheering on a favorite team.
That’s where the Nashville Sports Council (NSC) comes in. The Council’s mission is to positively impact the economy and quality of life of Middle Tennesseans by attracting and promoting professional and amateur sporting events.
Each year, thousands of volunteers donate their time and efforts to guarantee the success of the different sporting events hosted by NSC. Volunteering for Nashville Sports Council events is a great networking opportunity, and is just plain fun. “If you enjoy sports and want to showcase the great city of Nashville, this is one of those rare ways to do it!” says NSC volunteer Ben Davis.
The 13th annual St. Jude Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon Presented by Nissan takes place on April 25-28, and is the next big opportunity to volunteer with NSC. Whether you love running, or you’re just fascinated with the fact that people CHOOSE to run 26.2 miles, this is a very fun event to be a part of. There are opportunities to volunteer setting up the Health and Fitness Expo April 26, staffing the Expo April 26-27, assisting with the ING Kid’s Marathon April 27, and helping on race day, April 28. Race day volunteer needs include helping at the starting line, late registration, gear check-in, and the finish line.
