Hands On Nashville Announces Tornado Relief Volunteer Opportunities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nonprofit calls on community to assist with disaster response efforts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 12, 2023) – Saturday’s tornado outbreak left a wake of destruction in Middle Tennessee. Hands On Nashville (Hands On), along with Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management and first responders, have been working to identify safe areas where volunteers are most needed.

Now that emergency management officials have indicated safe areas to work in, Hands On Nashville needs volunteer help. Opportunities are now available with more to come:

CANVASSING AND CLEANUP:

Individuals looking to volunteer should visit hon.org/tornado23 and choose Nashville or Clarksville for specific volunteer opportunities. Projects include debris removal, checking in volunteers, and distributing information to survivors. More volunteer opportunities will become available as Hands On identifies additional needs. PLEASE NOTE: Those wishing to volunteer will need to first register for an opportunity at hon.org before arriving to a service area. Once signed up, volunteers will receive information about where to go.

Community members who do not have internet and would like to volunteer may go to Catholic Charities – 2806 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214 – between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. to register.

DISTRIBUTION CENTER:

Hands On also needs volunteers to support the distribution center at FiftyForward Madison Station for survivors needing essential items. Volunteers should sign up for these opportunities on hon.org before arriving. Please do not drop off donations at the distribution center. The Community Resource Center is receiving all material donations.

DONATIONS:

Donations are welcome and critical to supporting Middle Tennessee’s response to and recovery from this disaster and future ones. The community can donate to the United Way of Greater Nashville’s tornado response fund or Hands On Nashville

Those affected by the storm and needing assistance can visit NashvilleResponds.com and fill out the Assistance Request Form. They can also call 2-1-1.
